Makinohara upland is one of the most famous and largest tea estates in Japan.
1. History
The retainers of Tokugawa Shogunate had developed Makinohara upland and established tea plantations there.
At the edge of tea plantations on Makinohara upland facing to Ooi river, there is a memento statue of “CHUJO Kageaki”, who led the development of tea plantations on Makinohara upland.
In front of the statue next to the tea plantations on Hatsukura region, we can touch their significant efforts and Samurai spirits established the greatest tea estate on Makinohara upland.
2. Development
Various projects had been carried out historically for the development and improvement of tea plantations on Makinohara upland.
Horai Bridge, the longest wooden bridge all over the world, was built for the pioneers to move to Makinohara upland.
In these decades, a series of public and non-public works of water infrastructures have been implemented to improve water management on Makinohara upland. These works have been building water infrastructures such as pumps and irrigation systems in Makinohara tea estate.
Thanks to those outstanding works of tea farmers and those who related, Makinohara tea estate produce a wealth of the finest teas and tea products and express its excellent landscapes of tea plantations.
3. Geography and Landscapes
The geography of Makinohara upland can provide various fantastic views of tea plantations with Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay.
Mild climate also blesses a wealth of natures and express various scenes and tinges.
