Hachiju-Hachiya – Beginning of Something New

Hachiju-Hachiya is the border between spring and summer, from which various new things start. New green leaves start to freshly flourish on blanches of various trees from around Hachiju-Hachiya. Farmers start to plant nurseries of rice around this turning point of season. People traditionally change their clothes from around this day. In this year, various new activities has started from around Hachiju-Hachiya.

Leaders of Japanese Tea Industry has organized the online tea party in ZOOM. (Unfortunately I could not participate the event due to own work.) This new challenge could establish the new wave of tea communication in this circumstance of social distancing. This kind of online interaction has a great potential to accelerate the exchange of unique ideas, which could result in new creative works related to tea, I hope.

Tea lovers has started “teapotrelay”, a relay post to introduce own favorite teapots. In this challenge, those who introduced their favorite teapots designate the next one, in their facebook page with the hush tag #teapotrelay.

As new challenges on Hachiju-Hachiya, I tried new style of serving tea, in which I serve cold-brewed first flush as aperitif with beautiful flowers.
