Five Star Flavorful Sencha of Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative

Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative has cultivated and produced deep steamed green tea on Gomyo region in Kakegawa tea estate. In this year, this tea factory won the best prize for the deep steamed green tea in the All Japan Tea Competition, which is a long-established and traditional contest of Japanese tea to evaluate the skill of tea processing. The Minister’s award of MAFF will be presented to Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative in the 72th All Japan Tea Festival on 14th December.

 

Their teas has bright green color and mild flavor with comfortable finish.

The best significance of the tea cooperative is their environment-friendly cultivation in the fantastic tea plantations on Gomyo region in Kakegawa tea estate. The landscapes of their main cultivation area are shown below.

Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative practices Chagusaba management, which is “the traditional tea-grass integrated system in Shizuoka” certified as GIAHS by FAO. The end of autumn is the season of cutting silver grass grown around tea plantation, so-called “Chagusa” meaning “tea-grass”. When I visited on November, tea farmers were cutting silver grasses around tea plantation.

These practice could enrich tea flavor.

The great geography of Gomyo region is perfect to not only tea cultivation, but also star watching. Mr. Nishimura observed a new comet on the Gomyo region in 1994. This comet is named as “C/1994 N1 Nakamura-Nishimura-Machholz”.

Local people, including the members of Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative, annually holds a star party on summer or autumn.

They put their significance on the wealth of nature providing them with beautiful tea plantations and clear sky perfect to stargazing. This is the reason why Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative titles star-related names such as “Comet”, “Star for Wish” and “Star of Fulfillment” on their tea brands.

72th All Japan Tea Festival will exhibit various teas prized on the All Japan Tea Competition on this weekend in Nihonbashi Plaza, Tokyo. The event is a great opportunity for tasting the wealth of nature in Gomyo region in Kakegawa tea estate. Hopefully you could meet excellent teas at the All Japan Tea Festival, including the deep steamed Sencha produced by Gomyo Tea Production Cooperative.
