Haru Satoyama Haku – The Expo of Agriculture-Related Cultures in Rural Area

The Expo of agriculture-related cultures in rural area, named as “Haru Satoyama Haku”, will be held from 5th May to 6th April around Ooi river, involving northern Makinohara upland.
This expo of green-tourism has multihued programs in each day, such as tea ceremonies, lunch parties of local foods, experiences of tea processing or local cooking, activities related to agriculture or forestry or rural culture, and so on.

In this expo, many tea farmers provide their products or services. I’d like to introduce them.

 

(1) Tea ceremonies in afternoon in a Japanese traditional tea house.
In this program, we can enjoy specialty black teas produced by IMURA Norio and MURATA Yuya. Norio and Yuya will serve “BENIFUKI Premium Tea” and “KOHAKU”, respectively, with Japanese sweet stuff.

  • Access : It takes 10 – 15 minutes from JR Kanaya station on foot. The location is somehow difficult to seek. If possible, please use taxi. The fee will be less than 800 yens.
  • Fee : 1,500yens.

(2) Experience program of black tea processing
In this program, we can experience black tea processing with an instruction by MIRURA Yoshinobu. Yoshinobu is very good at instructions, advices and conversations. He will entertain us.
In addition to this experience program, we can taste nice sweets with self-made black teas.

(3) Japanese traditional cuisine using sesame cultivated by a young tea farmer.
OGASAWARA Kazutomi, a young tea farmer and one of the “Makinohara boys”, produces specialty sesame also. The sesame has rich sweetie aroma and flavorful oil. Due to such delicious flavor, this sesame is selected as one of the best local souvenirs.
In this program, we can enjoy lunch dishes using the specialty sesame cooked by the sophisticated skilled chef of Japanese traditional cuisine. Especially, the most recommended dish is the Japanese traditional curd of sesame so-called “Goma Dofu”. Goma Dofu is one of the traditional dishes so-called “Shojin Ryori”, which means “cuisine for monks carrying out strict training of spiritual sophistication”, made by the monks in Buddhism temples.
In addition, the restaurant “Uoichi” is a high grade restaurant of traditional Japanese meals so-called “Kappo”. In general, it takes more than 4,000yens for one course meal. In this time, we can enjoy the lunch at a less expensive price (2,160yens)!!
