Tea For Peace on 10th and 11th November in Shibuya

Tea For Peace, the rootin’-tootin’ tea event, will be held on 10th and 11th November at UNU in Shibuya ward.
Although the event contents is still veiled, it is expected the exhibitors will charm us by multihued teas and related products. In the previous time, unique tea farmers and tea businesses presented a wide variety of tea products as follows.

 

(1) Kawane Organic 3Years Bancha by Peace Tea Factory
I could meet to a very unique tea made from matured stem and leaves of tea plants. This unique tea is produced by Peace Tea Factory in Kawane tea estate. Peace Tea Factory has practiced utilization and restoration of abandoned tea gardens.

They prunes overgrown tea plants in the abandoned tea gardens and roasts them by their kiln.

A member explained how they “harvest” overgrown tea plants. They prun the tea plants taller than them by a buzzsow.

They chip the pruned tea plants into small pieces.

The chipped tea plants, 30% of leaves and 70% of stems, are roasted in the kiln.

The appearance of the Kawane organic 3Years Bancha. Toasty and slightly sweet aroma are released from the tea.

Their practice could reduce the number of abandoned tea gardens, resulting in the sustainable tea production in the tea estate due to the reduction of pests and troubles by wildlife accounted for abandoned tea gardens.

(2) Organic Teas produced by Zenkoen Tea Farm
Zenkoen Tea Farm has been producing organic teas on Kanaya region, the north edge of Makinohara upland.

 

(3) Pan-Fired Teas by Shibamoto
Mr. Shibamoto exhibited specialty oolong and black teas with fancy illusts.

 

(4) Kunitomo Farm in the deep in Kochi prefecture
Kunitomo Farm picks tea shoots from the tea bushes naturally grown in the deep of mountain forest. The naturally grown tea plants are shown in their shop flag. The family produce green tea, oolong tea from the special tea shoots.

Kunitomo family served their specialty oolong tea highly aromatically.

The tea bushes naturally grown in the deep of Mountains in Tosa region of Kochi prefecture.

(5) Chiyonoen in Yame tea estate
Chiyonoen has produced fine teas on Yabe village in Yame tea estate for more than 60 years. They cultivate tea plants organically in the altitude between 400 and 600m, where the plants are veiled with snow in winter time.
