Shimizuen – Meet to Claftsman of Tea and Clay Art

Shimizuen is one of the specialty tea shops in the urban area of Shimizu ward in Shizuoka city.

This tea shop deals with a series of specialty tea. Mr. Kaneko, the owner and tea blender of this tea shop, selects prominent crude teas produced in two tea estates located on mountainside, Honyama and Kawane tea estate. These tea estates are famous for traditional light steamed green tea so-called “Asamushi Sencha”, which has highly fresh aroma.

Shimizuen recommends us to eat loose leaf tea of young 1st flush. It is very unique!
The tea shop explains the tea leaves is enough young to eat itself with less astringency.

I bought a loose leaf tea for cold brewing.

This tea is also recommended to eat itself, indicating the ingredient tea leaves are sufficiently soft. The needle-like tin shape of loose leaf tea indicates the softness of ingredient tea shoots.

It’s so mellow and freshly aromatic! Perfect to cold brewing!

In addition to the tea art, Mr. Kaneko also has the special skill to craft clay arts. We can enjoy seeing his clay arts at his gallery inside Shimizuen.

He creates a tea fiction “Chappermen three brothers”.

Chappermen are the mascot rabbits who fight against oxidants or other toxic materials using catechins’ power in our bodies.

Flying Chapperman!

His gallery has also tea cylinder arts, drawing Mt. Fuji sterically.

We can enjoy seeing other tea cylinder crafts in the photo gallery of Kaneko Takami.

The loose leaf tea for cold brewing is so delicious and exiting that I bring its cold infusion to the open water swimming race to adjust my body condition. As a result, I won the third place in the Minami Atami OWS race thanks to the excellent cold brew tea of Shimizuen!!
