Raktajino, a fancy drink originated from Star Trek, is now widely loved by many. As I being one of Trekkies and tea enthusiasts at the same time, I tried an arrangement to make “Matcha Raktajino”.
Orthodox ingredients of raktajino are as follows.
- 2 cups of water
- 2 teaspoons of ground Turkish coffee
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- Some pinches of crushed spices such as cardamom, clove, allspice etc.
- Cinnamon sticks
For making “Matcha Raktajino”, I exchanged 2 ingredients to matcha and green tea as follows.
- 2 cups of green tea (deep steamed type)
- 2 teaspoons of matcha (ground Tencha, dried tea leaves of shade grown one)
- 2 tea spoons of sugar
- Some pinches of crushed spices such as cardamom, clove, allspice etc.
- Cinnamon sticks
Klingon might prefer to use gyokuro green tea instead to deep steamed type, however, it would be too strong for human.
Spices add some stimulus tastes on its flavor, which makes a good harmony with slight astringency and full-body derived from matcha. This flavor matches with sweet staff like a chocolate or raisin sandwich cookie.
The mellow and spicy taste would refresh our brains clear. I’d like to enjoy it at a short break in office with witty conversation with colleague like Star Trek!
