Senshodou – Confectionery Stores in Makinohara Pt.1

Makinohara has not only wonderful spots for sightseeing, this area has a variety of nice confectionery stores.

As the biggest tea estate in Japan, the sweet shops make various confections including tea (mainly powdered tea).

I’d like to introduce some shops in the series of post “Confectionery Stores in Makinohara”

In the first post of the series, I’d like to introduce “Senshodou”

05 Mt.Fuji

Left side ones are named as “Mt. Fuji”, which is sharped like Mt. Fuji as shown in the photo.

06 SpringWind

“Haru Ichiban” which means “first spring storm”. Sweet soy paste mixed with 3 kinds of powdered tea is wrapped by milk-rich bread skin.

07 No1inJapan

Bean-jam wafer “Nihon Ichi” which means “Top of Japan”. This contain white beans of fine quality mixed with powdered green tea. The name is derived from Makinohara upland as the biggest tea estate in Japan.

08 ArtisticConfections

Artifacts of confectionery with seasonal colors, indicating the mastercraftsmanship and love for local environment of the owner chef Mr. Suzuki.

 

 

Mr. Suzuki, the president and executive chef of this store, often demonstrates confectionery cooking in many events as shown in the following.

This photo shows the demonstration scene on “the day of Mt.Fuji” in the Mt.Fuji Shizuoka Airport.

In his blog, we can see many photo of wonderful artifacts, various seasonal confectioneries of multihued colors.

He loves local foods and rural society so much, thus he cooks confectionery using local products such as powdered green tea, strawberry etc. He is certificated as one of “Prominent Craftsperson of Pastry in Shizuoka” by Shizuoka prefecture due to his works and contribution to the local area.
