Experiences of “Kirei Sabi” Elegance in the Tea Museum Shizuoka

In the spring session of World Tea Festival 2019, the Tea Museum Shizuoka provides fantastic experiences of “Kirei Sabi” elegance. “Kirei Sabi” is a sense of beauty established by Kobori Enshu. This sense is described as “the Japanese aesthetic of elegant beauty” by Tyas Sosen, a Belgian Japanese Tea Master, in his post.

The Tea Museum Shizuoka has a Japanese authentic garden, which was replicated as the garden designed by Kobori Enshu.

There are 3 experiences of “Kirei Sabi” in the fantastic garden as follows.

(1) “Nodate” – Open-air Tea Ceremony
On the side of the Japanese garden, we can enjoy a tea ceremony “Nodate”, which is the tea ceremony held under the sky. We can enjoy seeing the tea preparation demonstrated by tea masters of several tea schools such as Omotesenke, Urasenke and Enshuryu.

The tea master of Urasenke school demostrated matcha preparation. His move was so aesthetic! Besides, the Japanese garden and tea room on the background was beautiful

(2) Tea Ceremony Experience
Visitors enjoyed learning how to prepare matcha from tea masters of each tea school.

(3) Walking through the Japanese Garden and Tea Room
Japanese garden welcomed us with its sabi elegance.

Tea Museum Shizuoka regularly provides the tea ceremony experience the authentic tea room “Shomokuro”. If you are interested in the programs, please try in the museum.
