MAFF provides people with various information of foods in its special exhibition room “Consumers’ room”. In the “Consumers’ room”, a public seminar of Japanese tea will be hold on 8th June 2018. The Japanese tea seminar is hold annually at the beginning of June, as posted 1 year ago.
In this year too, some of Japanese Tea Instructors will explain and demonstrate how to brew Japanese tea much better and serve cups of well-brewed tea for visitors.
The official web page of MAFF announces that the instructors will serve 3 types of Japanese tea and 2 types of tea latte, including matcha and Hojicha roasted tea. According to the MAFF pamphlet, 2 of the three types of Japanese tea are Hojicha and cold-brewed Sencha. Lately Hojicha and cold brewed tea have gained their popularity so much. In this event, the specialty teas awarded in Tokyo Tea Party are often used. Thus the 2 types of tea are estimated the teas that won the prize of fine product award in the last year.
The awarded Hojicha may be “Roasted Oolong Blend”, which won the second prize in Japanese Tea Award 2017.
This specialty tea contains 5 cultivars, Koshun, Benifuki, Izumi and 2 native varieties. Marutaka Farm processed each cultivar in respective ways based on each feature of oxidation in withering process. The past awards imply another candidate for the awarded Hojicha, “Roasted La Koju”. This specialty Hojicha is produced by the collaborative work of Yamanashi Shoten and Marutaka Farm. Marutaka Farm produced the crude oolong tea using their originally-bled cultivar ‘Koju’, which has higher potential to express muscatel aroma by withering.
And Yamanashi Shoten roasted and refined the crude tea. This collaboration results in the fantastic aroma of “La Koju” and Platina prize in Japanese Tea Award 2016. Anyway we will enjoy wonderful aroma of Hojicha roasted tea.
The awarded Sencha for cold brewing is “Teian Aoka”, which won the fine product prize in Japanese Tea Award 2017. This specialty tea is produced by Ushijima Seicha in Yame tea estate in Fukuoka prefecture.
In addition, matcha latte and Hojicha latte will be served in the event. According to the pamphlet, the event will be organized by 2 divisions of tea and milk. Fine matcha and Hojicha powder and yummy milk should be savory latte!!
