Ejima is one of the most long-established tea stores in Japan, which has sold Sencha Japanese tea since 1661 in Odawara city, Kanagawa prefecture.
Its being impresses its deep history, implying many customers have been demanding the teas of Ejima.
This store sells lots of deep-steamed green tea produced in Kakegawa region in Shizuoka prefecture, as we look the Kanji characters of “Kakegawa” in the flags.
In this day I visited, I bought this flagship tea crowned with the store name “Ejima-en”.
Fortunately the store has already started to sell the first flush teas in 2017 in that day.
We can meet some traditional items in this retail store of Ejima.
At first, crocks would come to our eyes, so-called “Chatsubo”, which is the crocks for tea storage.
Going to the back of the shop, we will meet old items that had been used by tea merchants or tea blenders in the past.
Then, let’s try the loose leaf tea.
Although the shape of loose leaf of deep-steamed tea tends to be somehow broken shape, most part of this tea remains needle-like appearance.
When I opened the package, I sensed the condensed aroma somehow like dried sea weed so-called “Nori” in Japanese. The smell indicates that some part of crude tea are shade-grown one. Cultivation under the shade can improve the color and taste of tea.
Of course the flavor of this tea is so nice!
Especially this tea has also the ability to successfully re-steep!
Even after 6 times re-steeping, the liquor color retain deep bright green and full-bodied taste blight my tongue.
This fantastic tea shop “Ejima” sells their teas online, such as Amazon.com, NIHON ICHIBAN etc.
