In Kameya, bean-jam bun shaped as various animals such as turtle, monkey, whale, bear and so on.
According to the store name, the most popular shape is turtle-shape. (“Kame” means “turtle” in Japanese)
Although this shop was originally a bakery, the owner decided to concentrate making bean-jam bun, the most popular product at the time, resulting the success.
The inspiration of the founder chef to make turtle-shaped bun was derived from two reasons. One is the locality that turtles come to beaches of Makinohara area for the egg-deposition. Second is the lore that turtle is a symbol of luck due to its longevity.
We can enjoy shapes of them. The taste is gentle and familiar to Japanese people and good match for Japanese green tea “Sencha”. So I think I can eat it one a day with Sencha.
