Chakura, the retail section of Kikusui Tea Production Cooperative, produces loose leaf tea of Tsuyuhikari, named as “Emerald-no-Shizuku” which means emerald dew in Japanese.
As written before, Tsuyuhikari is one of the cultivars of tea plants (Camellia Sinensis). It has become more popular due to its brilliant green color like emerald in the infusion and sweeter taste. One of the characters consisting of “Kikusui”, name of the tea production cooperative, means “emerald” in Japanese as shown in below.
Therefore, I feel this tea seems to be one of the flagship products in Kikusui Tea Production Cooperative.
As indicated in its name, the colors of each infusion is very beautiful, brilliant emerald! Of course, conditions of extraction changes the concentration of green color.
1st infusion has rich umami as expected! I think this rich umami in 1st infusion at lower temperature is common in Tsuyuhikari. And the endurance of bright green color against re-steeping is also characteristic to Tsuyuhikari.
For this “Suigyoku-no-Shizuku”, I’d like to emphasis the endurance of taste against re-steeping.
I could still enjoy the flavor of 5th re-steeped infusion!
